No matter which end of the political spectrum you claim, or where you may fall within it (or perhaps you’re off of it all together), most everyone is starting to feel exhausted lately.
I have friends who are ready to give up fighting for what they believe in, and friends who are ready to quit social media just to get away from the crazy. To say that we are living in a tumultuous and unique time is an understatement.
To be sure, I have no wisdom. No broader perspective that I can share that will enlighten us all. But what I do want to do is remind you that no matter what, we can listen. In fact, that may be the most important thing we do after all.
Everyone deserves to be heard.
I would urge you to consider that when someone you disagree with has something to say, you let them say it. Listen to understand. Respond if it makes sense. Consider their position. If you have the floor; do the same. This is not to say that you should be swayed. This is not to say that you should bend your morals, ethics, beliefs, position or perspective. Still; listen.
It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, what you’ve seen, what you’ve done, what you’ve been through, and who you know. We can all be kind.
Sorry about the now-becoming-cliche’ quote, but it’s just too lovely…
“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.”- Henry James
